Writing Roundup #3 Notebook Prompt | Lydia Sanders #EclecticWritingClass

I hope you finished your homework from Writing Roundup #2 because today we get a whole new set of assignments. If you're new to the class, I recommend checking out the Eclectic Writing Class post hub for explanations on the categories and links to the earlier lessons.

Productivity

I'd thought about making myself some sort of writing chart for a long time, but the thing that finally pushed me over the edge to do it was Joanna Penn's Author 2.0 Blueprint (which you can get for free when you subscribe to her mailing list) and some of the blog posts she references in it. Here are two posts from The Creative Penn that mention her writing productivity chart:

My system is a little more intricate than Joanna's. I have manageable big-picture writing goals laid out for the rest of the year, but on a month-by-month basis, I schedule smaller assignments. Beyond that, every day that I work on blog or novel writing stuff, I get a sticker. Every day that I don't, I get a red X. When I move into drafting, I'll also start filling up the word count goal thermometer.

This kept me motivated through all of the writing, photography, and website template tweaking of the last month. I don't always finish things as quickly as I'd like, but any progress is better than no progress, and over time those little bits of progress make a difference. It's not too late to make 2018 a great writing year!

Progress

Since the last Writing Roundup post, I have written this page explaining my review rating system, and the hub page for this blog series. For a while I had an extra-large blog post buffer going, but that has gone down as I've focused on writing the static pages. I still have three more pages to write. They're the sort I look forward to being finished with, rather than to actually writing, but they're necessary...

You may also have noticed that the blog looks ever so slightly prettier. I spent a couple of days fixing most of the little cosmetic things that were bothering me. There are still a few things I'm annoyed with, but I've accepted that they're beyond my technical skill to fix.

I've also resumed working on my book outline. While I was in the midst of all the site template editing, I had some social events and other weird pockets of time without internet access, so I started carrying around my e-reader and a notebook. I am still using K.M. Weiland's Outlining Your Novel and Outlining Your Novel Workbook. That's going well now, but at first, it was weird coming back to it after being away so long. Even the title has changed—it’s like we don’t even know each other anymore!

I was really hoping to get the outline done by July, but since I still have a couple of blog pages to write and I'm also going to have to start writing blog posts again soon, I think I'll spend July Camp NaNoWriMo really fleshing out the outline.

That’s it! Writing Roundup #4 will come out in four weeks, so you have plenty of time to do the homework. To find other posts in this series and a more detailed explanation of the categories, visit An Eclectic Writing Class.
