What will you do with your life?

Saturday, September 08, 2012

Recently I've had yet another opportunity to look at my life. What exactly do I want to do with it anyway? This time the question was brought on by my premarital counseling, though it tends to come up any time I face a big life transition.

When I look at all of my personal goals, ambitions, hopes, plans, and dreams, sometimes it's easy to forget why I want these things. Which things are more important than others? Which things would God want me to do and have? Which things on the list will change as I get older?

There are certainly things that I want to do before I die, like "visit Ireland", but some things I want are more difficult to measure, like "grow closer to God daily." The other day I decided to make a journal of my personal hopes, dreams, and goals to write down some of the things I want to do with my life and maybe even journal my progress for some things, especially those I know I'll never be done with.

What do you want to do with your life? What have you done with your life? How do you keep yourself from becoming discouraged when it seems to take forever to check anything off of your personal bucket list or "I've always wanted to..." list? Do you have any goals that you will never be able to check off? How do you decide what is important?
